Our take
FARO provides software and hardware for 3D measurement, imaging, and realization, as well as a reality capture and collaboration platform. Founded in 1981, the company now has over 25 offices around the world and delivers leading solutions for industries including facility operations and management, and public safety analytics.
FARO has a history of rapid growth, and has continuously developed and innovated its offerings. This was, and is, in part facilitated by a series of acquisitions; starting with CATS Computer Aided Technologies in 1998, and most recently including the companies GeoSLAM and SiteScape. These latest acquisitions have contributed to FARO having one of the widest portfolios of reality capture solutions on the market, including 360-degree camera-based images, mobile scanning, and stationary high-accuracy laser scanning.
In the second half of 2025, FARO was acquired by AMETEK, a precision technology portfolio. This deal will enable AMETEK to utilise FARO's 3D measurement and imaging technology for its own range of products. With its wide range of solutions, 40 years of industry experience, and under new ownership, FARO has visions towards being the global leader in 3D and 4D digital reality solutions, a market which surpassed 450 billion dollars in 2025.
